Help Atlanta lead the country towards ending discrimination in housing, employment, education, and healthcare against formerly incarcerated people! In October 2022, Atlanta City Council unanimously voted in favor of making formerly incarcerated people a protected class. This was a huge win led by Barred Business!

Now we want to go further: We are calling on the Council to add justice-impacted people to the city's Bill Of Rights. That’s why we're inviting you to share YOUR story.

Here are some reflection prompts to get you started:

  • What is an experience or moment that moved you to take political action on behalf of racial justice?
  • In what ways have you been impacted by collateral consequences and/or by the criminal legal system?
  • What is in your power to do to support formerly incarcerated people?

Note Pad

Jot down some notes here, but avoid reading them word for word.

- Introduce yourself
- Say you want Atlanta City Council to give justice-impacted people a second chance by adding them to the city charter
- Share why this matters to you (ex: how you've been impacted by collateral consequences; what moved you to fight for racial justice)
